Cuba will apply new measures as of June 5 due to the increase in imported cases

Havana, May 25th.- Francisco Durán García, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), reported new measures that will be applied in Cuba as of June 5 due to the increase in the number of imported cases in recent weeks, mainly Cuban passengers residing in the national territory that arrive through airports linked to tourist areas such as Ciego de Ávila and Varadero.

These decisions are made, he argued, “taking into account the epidemiological risk represented by the reported cases of Cuban travelers and given the appearance of sick people in the community after the period of isolation and surveillance established, as well as the appearance in the territory of the new strains, together with the need to reduce the costs associated with facing the pandemic ”.

The doctor explained that there have been cases that, after being negative to the PCR and discharged, have presented symptoms in the first days, confirming with COVID-19 and with risk of transmission.

For this reason, Durán García added, among the measures to be applied to travelers residing in the national territory who arrive through the airports of the tourist poles, is that they will perform isolation in the province of arrival for a term of seven days, in tourist facilities , assuming the cost in MLC of the isolation package that includes, in addition to lodging, transportation from the airport to said facility.

The return transportation to their province of residence, after being negative on the seventh day of isolation, must be assumed by the traveler in the means available for it, according to the current rates.

The national director of Epidemiology of the Minsap explained that the protocol for the arrival of travelers is maintained and the evolutionary PCR test is carried out on the sixth day of their arrival in the country.

The national director of Passenger Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Luis Ladrón de Guevara, stressed that the transfer of travelers will be ensured as it has been done until now.

He explained that once the seven days of isolation have concluded and since it is not included in the tourist package, for the return to the place of residence, one can choose one of the means available in the facility: a taxi, rent a bus among a group of travelers, among other possibilities.

Measures to be applied to travelers residing in the national territory who arrive through the airports of Havana and Santiago de Cuba:
The expenses for transportation services from the airport to the isolation center and then to their place of residence must be assumed by travelers in Cuban pesos, according to current rates and including the baggage surcharge.
The stay in the isolation centers is maintained free of charge.
