Helsinki, December 6th.- Charge d’Affaires a.i of the Republic of Cuba in the Republic of Finland, Mr. Víctor M. Rodríguez Etcheverry attended on behalf of the Greater Antilles, to the solemn Ceremony of signing of the “Golden Book” of the President of the Finnish Republic, on the occasion of the 104th Anniversary of the Independence of the Nordic country, in the Presidential Palace of Pohjoisesplanadi.

This year, the Gala of Honor offered by the Head of State of the Nation, H.E. Mr. Sauli Niinisto with the accredited diplomatic corps was canceled, due to the sensitive epidemiological situation that the country is going through in a new wave of Covid-19. However, the signature space was organized for diplomatic representatives, who sent a flower arrangement to the highest authorities of the country.

Finland became a sovereign state, after the Declaration of Independence was adopted by Parliament on 12/06/1917. It ceased to be the “Grand Duchy of Finland”, belonging to the Russian Empire to become a young Parliamentary Republic, with a progressive approach and a welfare state typical of the Nordic social democracies, where the State has an important weight in society.

The Cuban diplomat congratulated all Finns and wished a happy anniversary of independence, with the aim of continuing to develop the traditional existing ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation.
