Havana, 28 January 2022. The director-general for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Foreign Ministry, Eugenio Martinez, on Friday reiterated Cuba’s concern over the non-compliance with the Peace agreements in Colombia.
On his Twitter account, the official referred to the lack of security guarantees to which the Colombian State committed itself in the Final Peace Agreement, signed with the guerrillas of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) in 2016.
As the Constitutional Court of Colombia ruled, it is evident that the fundamental rights to life, personal integrity and peace of the signatories of this Agreement were ignored by the Colombian State, Martinez pointed out. He also called to stop the massacres and guarantee the security of the former guerrillas.
According to data from the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (INDEPAZ), 2021 was one of the most violent years in Colombia, where 96 massacres and assassinations that left 335 fatalities were reported.
The source added that so far in 2022, violent actions against social leaders, human rights defenders and demobilized combatants have resulted in 12 people killed.
