Cuba-India business meeting was held in Hyderabad.

On March 18, the Cuba-India business meeting organized by the Indian Economic and Trade Organization (IETO) was held in Hyderabad, capital of the Indian state of Telangana. Under the theme “building a vibrant partnership through deeper trade and investment relations” the event was attended by the Cuban Ambassador, Alejandro Simancas Marin, and the Chief Secretary of the Government of Telangana, Jayesh Ranjan.

The opening remarks were made by Asif Iqbal, President of IETO, who announced the preparation of a business delegation to travel to Cuba at the end of April to participate in the “Biohabana 2022” event. Videos with messages of greetings to the meeting were also transmitted by Rubén Ramos, vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba, and by Víctor Martínez, commercial director of Biocubafarma.  In both cases, they ratified the will to strengthen the economic and commercial ties between both countries, and invited the president of IETO, Asif Iqbal, together with a large business group, to visit Cuba.

A fundamental moment of the meeting was the announcement of the creation of the Cuba Bureau at the IETO Latin America and Caribbean office in the city of Hyderabad and the signing by its Commercial Commissioner, Murthy Devarabhotla, of three memorandums of understanding with different Indian institutions for the promotion of the commercialization of Cuban rum and for the development of tourism and cultural relations through the realization of a film production in Cuba of Tollywod, as the film industry of Telangana is known.

The event was attended by multiple companies from the region representing the biopharmaceutical, IT and communications sectors, among others. Hyderabad is one of the main centers of the high-tech industry in India.
