Cuba highlights in virtual seminar the legacy of Marti’s thought in the fight against the blockade

New York, 6 February 2021.“The humanistic thought and the emancipatory work of Martí, who lived 15 years here in the United States and was brilliantly knowledgeable of the American society of that time, offers us an immense legacy with fundamental lessons for all those who seek to ensure that Cuba and the United States can coexist in an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect, which necessarily involves the lifting of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade against my country” stated Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, in his remarks at the webinar organized by the Hands off Cuba South Florida Coalition.

At another point in his statement, Pedroso affirmed that Cubans, who have been educated in a profound anti-imperialist feeling, toughened in more than 150 years of struggle for our independence, have not been and never will be anti-American. He underscored that “Marti and Fidel´s anti-imperialism was not divorced from the readiness to establish cordial and respectful relations between the two countries”.

Likewise, the Ambassador answered questions of some participants aimed at emphasizing the relevance of Marti’s thinking in the struggle that the Cuban Revolution has historically sustained against US imperialism, with emphasis on the impact of the blockade that has been intensified during the last year.

The virtual event was attended by Max Lesnik, Director of Radio Miami, Peter Seidman, Coordinator of the Hands off Cuba South Florida Coalition, and other members of this organization in solidarity with Cuba.

The seminar was also supported by a number of Internet users from the United States and Canada who in their comments advocated the total lifting of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.
