Cuba celebrated International Human Rights Day

Havana, December 10th.- Under the slogan “These are the facts”, young people and Cuban institutions celebrated, this December 10, a political-cultural activity for International Human Rights Day.

In areas near the Havana Malecón (esplanade of the flag), workers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Casa de las Américas, personnel from the Ministry of Tourism, artists from the Hermanos Saíz Association and pioneers from schools near the site, commemorated the date and the information to the world that human rights do exist and are respected in Cuba, “although they try to distort the reality of the country in some parts of the world,” said one participant.

With exclamations of “Long live human rights! Cuba yes, no blockade!” and ¡Viva Cuba !, those summoned recalled that the Caribbean nation is one of the member states of the United Nations Organization with the highest number of human rights ratifications, specifically 44 of the 61 international instruments on this matter.

Also present at the activity were personalities and the Vice Minister of Foreign Relations, Josefina Vidal.

A publication on the website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, on the subject, refers to the fact that the Greater Antilles has a lot to show about “guarantees and enjoyment of human rights for all.”

“The government of Cuba maintains its firm will to continue strengthening and perfecting the promotion and protection of human rights for all, despite the genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade that for six decades successive administrations of the United States have maintained against the country “, limits said publication.

In Cuba the Health system has universal coverage and free assistance. Comprehensive medical care is guaranteed to 100% of the population. In addition, it is the best endowed country in the number of doctors per inhabitant, according to the World Health Organization.

Cuban children are vaccinated against 13 diseases, one of the immunization programs with the highest coverage in the world. In 2015, the Island was the first country in the world to receive certification from the World Health Organization for having eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV and Syphilis.

And, currently, in the archipelago more than 1,631,000 children over two years of age have received the complete vaccination scheme against COVID-19, being the only country that has been able to massively vaccinate this population group.
