Cuba and South Africa advance cooperation in the field of Water and Sanitation

Pretoria, April 1st, 2021. Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson held a fruitful meeting with representatives of the South African Department of Water and Sanitation, led by Lindiwe Lusenga, Deputy Director General of said Department, who was accompanied by Refiloe Moloi, Director of International Relations and Vincent Monene, Director of Technical Services Engineers.

For its part, the Island’s delegation was also made up of the Chief of the Cuban Brigade of Hydraulic Specialists, Lázaro González Martínez, the Brigade Specialist, Ramón Vega Laugart, and the Economic Counselor of Cuba in South Africa, Aldo Valdés.

The South African side highlighted the excellent work carried out in the country by Cuban specialists who have been in South Africa since August 2020, as part of the implementation of the Agreement between Cuba and South Africa on Cooperation for the Administration of Water Resources and Water Supply, signed in February 2020.

Cuban engineers support in South Africa the efforts in the exploitation and efficient and sustainable use of water resources, the maintenance and management of the water supply and sanitation infrastructure, as well as in the strategic planning of these resources, particularly in rural communities and other disadvantaged communities of this sister African nation.

The Cuban Ambassador described bilateral cooperation in this area as an authentic example of South-South cooperation and a worthy expression of the historical legacy of our great leaders Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro.

The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere, a reflection of the deep and special ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation that exist between South Africa and Cuba, which will be celebrating on May 11, 27 years of mutually beneficial diplomatic relations.
