Cuba and Jamaica sign a new Agreement for Cooperation in Education

Kingston, Jamaica, 26 May 2021. The Ministries of Education of Jamaica and the Republic of Cuba signed today in this capital a new Agreement for Cooperation in Education for Professional and Academic Support.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Education, Youth and Information of Jamaica, Fayval Williams, and Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández, representing the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cuba.

During the ceremony, the Jamaican Minister referred to the historical relations of cooperation between the two Caribbean nations and highlighted the important contribution of Cuban teachers to public education in Jamaica in various disciplines, with particular emphasis on the teaching of the Spanish language.

For her part, the Cuban diplomat stressed that the signing of the document symbolizes an every time closer bilateral cooperation and a broader development of relations between the two countries.

The agreement, which will be in force for three extendable years, endorses the cooperation that Cuba and Jamaica have maintained for almost 25 years in the field of Education. At present, 83 Cuban teachers render their services in this sister Caribbean nation.
