Concert against the blockade in Lagos

Nigeria, August 13, 2021.- The Amilcar Cabral Ideological School – Movement, a member of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba in Nigeria, organized a Concert against the blockade on the occasion of the 95th Anniversary of the Birth of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.

The Concert was held at the New African Shrine, where photos and ideas of prominent pan-African leaders such as Amilcar Cabral, Kwame Nkrumah and Tomas Sankara are treasured, as well as objects of the famous musician Fela Ransome Kuti, who founded the emblematic place.

The event was attended by several personalities. Among them, the Ambassador of Cuba, Clara Pulido; and friends of Cuba like the coordinator of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, Abioudun Aremu; Prince Kayode Akiolu, President of the Nigeria Cuba Friendship Group in the House of Representatives, Lower House of the National Assembly; and Issa Aremu General Director of the National Institute for Trade Union Studies (MINILS), “Michael Imoudu”.

Very relevant the performances by prominent figures of Nigerian popular music, such as Seun Kuti (who inherited the band founded by his father Ransome Kuti), the Jazz player Maberu and the poet and singer Al Dagga Toller, accompanied by their respective bands.

Comrade Clara Pulido expressed deepest gratitude for the permanent solidarity with Cuba in Nigeria, two countries tied by so many historical and cultural roots. While denouncing the cruel economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the Caribbean island, the Cuban diplomat also elaborated on the efforts of the empire to try to subvert the Cuban Revolution.

At his turn, comrade Abioudun Aremu, coordinator of the Movement for Solidarity with Cuba and the main organizer of the event, ratified the firm solidarity with Cuba and denounced the unjust and unfair blockade.

The concert became a true act of solidarity with the Cuban people and a tribute to the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro.
