Communist Party of Finland condemns action by MEPs against Cuba

Helsinki, June 6th.- The president of the Communist Party of Finland (SKP), Juha-Pekka Väisänen, if he was a member of the European Parliament, affirmed that he would propose to discuss about Cuba, how to urge the government of Washington to lift the US Blockade.

A series of EU parliamentarians, anti-Cubans and subjugated to capitalism are proposing on June 8th, in the plenary session of the EU Parliament, to discuss the political situation and human rights in Cuba.

“The group of right-wing MEPs presents a resolution that distorts the Cuban reality. The anti-Cuban forces are trying, once again, to disrupt the successful progress of EU-Cuba relations, put an end to political dialogue and supplant cooperation agreements, which are currently being developed on the basis of mutual respect and equality, ”said Väisänen , to the newspaper of the Communist Party of Finland.

The SKP president considers it positive that rights are discussed as a human priority and that there is a desire to develop them. However, these people who defend capitalism, a system that essentially exploits nature and man, while on the one hand, they supposedly care about the development of human rights in Cuba, on the other they suggest that their true intentions do not they are to protect people, but to use the human rights issue as a political tool against Havana.

“In Cuba, a free, independent, sovereign, democratic country with social justice and that constantly offers solidarity to the world, the people do decide their destinies. Unlike western democracies, where big companies impose what we must accept ”, said the communist leader.

Väisänen suggested that the plenary session of the European Parliament should not waste its time debating the alleged superiority of capitalism over socialism. The issue of human rights must also be addressed in the United States and other countries in the world, including Europe itself, where police cruelty and discriminatory policies against immigrants have worsened in recent years. Speeches that promote hatred and supremacist ideas, violations of freedom of the press and expression, as well as racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance, must also be addressed not only at the highest levels of the state but also at the local governments, Juha-Pekka said.

The Communist Party of Finland condemns the maneuver of the small anti-Cuban group of EU parliamentarians. These politicized attacks by the bourgeoisie on the development of democracy endanger the independent action of the European Union in foreign policy and give an image of submission of European politics to the forces of the right.

I respectfully urge Members of the European Parliament not to fall for this game of hate politics. To genuinely build a better future for people and peoples and break with all kinds of structures that oppress our inhabitants and nature, be in solidarity with Cuba, oppose the United States Blockade and practice activities of solidarity and friendship with the Island , which only pretends to live in peace and in a better world.
