Charge d’Affaires a.i. meets with the Director of Multilaterals of the Namibian Foreign Ministry.

Namibia, January 13th, 2022- Ambassador Jerobean Shaanika, General Director of Multilateral Affairs and Cooperation of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia, held a meeting with Aldo Luis Fuentes Acosta, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Cuba.

Fuentes updated the experienced Namibian diplomat on the epidemiological situation in Cuba and the vaccination campaign carried out on the island.

The Charge d’Affaires a.i. He also explained the effects caused to the Cuban population by the US blockade, reinforced with 243 measures by the Donald Trump government, which the current administration maintains in force.

The Cuban diplomat thanked Namibia for its historical support to Cuba, in its fight against this hostile US policy. In this sense, he recalled President Hage Geingob’s speech at the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly and his message to the Namibian people for the end of the year 2021, where he called for the end of sanctions against the Cuban people.

Ambassador Shaanika reiterated his country’s condemnation of the unilateral and coercive measures applied against Cuba, while he celebrated the country’s achievements in controlling and fighting Covid-19, despite the sanctions.

In the fraternal meeting, both also exchanged on current regional issues.

Other officials from the Namibian Foreign Ministry were present.
