Australian Foreign Minister receives Cuban ambassador

Canberra, June 15, 2021.- The Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marise Payne, received the Cuban ambassador Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez on Tuesday afternoon.

During the cordial meeting, they exchanged on the current state of bilateral relations and their development possibilities in sectors such as health, biotechnology, mining and energy as well as the existing potential to promote triangular cooperation projects for the benefit of the Pacific Small Island Developing States.

In the same way, they highlighted the level of cooperation achieved between both countries in the multilateral arena, particularly in the exchange of candidacies, where the Cuban ambassador thanked Australia’s historic position in support of the resolution against the blockade in the framework of the United Nations General Assembly.

In addition, opinions were shared as to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in both countries and the world, a context in which the Cuban ambassador explained the existing perspectives of the five vaccine candidates that are being investigated and developed in the country, which will allow the immunisation of the entire population before the end of 2021.
