Pretoria, February 4, 2022- The Ambassador of Cuba in South Africa, Enrique Orta González, granted an interview to the main South African television network, South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) for the evening news program “Full View” for its broadcast next Wednesday February 9.
The Cuban representative, speaking of the historic ties of friendship between our countries, highlighted the interest in continuing to strengthen bilateral relations with South Africa, focused on expanding and diversifying political-commercial and cooperation relations, and referred to current issues current Cuban.
60 years after the signing by President J.F. Kennedy of executive order 3447 that formalized the blockade against Cuba on February 3, 1962, the Cuban ambassador explained the validity and damage that this criminal policy continues to cause as the main obstacle to the development of the Island, and that it has increased its harmful effects in the context of the current COVID-19 health emergency.
He pointed out that the blockade policy has been widely rejected by the international community: “So far 29 resolutions have been adopted by the United Nations in the last 28 years condemning the blockade (…) In addition to the UN, many other international organizations such as the African Union, the Group of 77, the Non-Aligned Movement, among others, have adopted a clear position against the blockade.
Likewise, he thanked the strong support of the South African government, political and trade union organizations and the people in general in this just claim.
