Minister Ng and Ambassador Tai reiterated their shared problem regarding the impact of Mexico’s energy sector reforms upon trade and investment plus highlighted the importance of working together with South america to address the issue. The minister also highlighted the importance of a strong multilateral trading system backed by the WTO, including a well-functioning dispute settlement system. November 30, 2022 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Europe Minister Ng reiterated Canada’s strong interest in becoming a member of and meaningfully contributing to the particular Indo-Pacific Economic Framework intended for Prosperity, and agreed with Ambassador Tai to remain within discussions regarding this process. Today, the Honourable Jane Ng, Minister of Worldwide Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, fulfilled with Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative to discuss continuing efforts to grow cross border trade, supporting inclusive job growth on both sides of the border. Minister Ng and Ambassador Tai discussed a range of additional issues relating to the Canada-US trading relationship, including softwood lumber. They agreed to keep on working closely together to strengthen this relationship, as well as our respective ties all over the world, especially with the Indo Pacific.
