Minister Ng speaks with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution plus Textiles

June 7, 2022 – Ottawa, Canada – Global Affairs Canada The Ministers underscored the importance of working together to advance World Trade Organization priorities at the upcoming MC12 conference in Geneva next week. Minister Ng and Minister Goyal reaffirmed their commitment to keep momentum into the next circular of negotiations, to take place in the coming months. Minister Ng and Minister Goyal noted progress in the second round of negotiations on the Canada-India Early Progress Business Agreement, while the two nations continue to work toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. They discussed the status associated with negotiations on key problems, including trade in goods and services, and investment protection. Canada recognises that as Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine threatens the rules-based worldwide order, it is more important than ever before for democracies to reinforce their ties with each other. Comprehensive growth and human legal rights lie at the core of Canada’s trade policies and engagements.
