The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will welcome the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, to Canada from October 16 to 17, 2023. October 15, 2023 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada As this year marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the visit of High Commissioner Türk will provide an opportunity for Minister Joly to discuss with him the shared objective of strengthening the international human rights system and Canada’s commitment to promote and protect human rights both at home and abroad. Minister Joly will raise pressing human rights concerns around the world and address the polarization and pushback on rights, particularly those of women and girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people.
