Joint Statement of the Foreign Ministers of Australia, Canada plus New Zealand on the Performance of Protesters in Iran

“Iran’s security pushes persist with draconian ways to ruthlessly suppress peaceful protestors, including the use of lethal pressure and senseless violence towards women and children. “Our support for the Iranian people to live their lives free from persecution is unwavering. We hear their powerful voices, and we will continue to amplify them anywhere we can. ” “The global trend away from the death penalty is unmistakable. “Hundreds have lost their lives and countless numbers languish in detention, among them an unknown number of children. “And we all call on Iran to immediately establish a moratorium to halt many executions and to end this particular brutal and inhumane abuse. “The people of Iran have not given up hope as they courageously demand full respect for their human being rights, despite the threats against them. “Now is the time for your regime to start listening and to act and meet the genuine concerns of its citizens. The Iranian people have suffered lengthy enough, and they are showing they will not be silenced. The Iranian routine must address the grievances of its citizens and ensure most of Iranians are free to take pleasure in their fundamental human rights and freedoms. “Yesterday the UN General Assembly spoke unequivocally when it voted overwhelmingly in favour of the particular resolution on a ‘Moratorium for the use of the death penalty’. The General Assembly also voiced its deep concern at the continual human rights violations dedicated by the Iranian regime, voting in favour of the resolution to the human rights situation within Iran. “The Iranian regime’s violence must finish, and there must be justice and accountability for the countless, egregious human rights violations dedicated since the outbreak of protests.   “We are usually watching a dark section in Iran’s recent background unfold and we are reacting in defence of all from the citizens. The Iranian regime’s brutality against its own individuals, in particular its women and girls, is unrelenting, and the circumstance is only worsening. “Cloaking state-sanctioned killing in opaque legal processes can be beyond abhorrent. Nothing can justify these shameful actions. December 15, 2022 – Ottawa, Canada – Global Matters Canada “We are appalled by Iran’s execution of protestors given that last Thursday. Many others jailed may await the same destiny. “We oppose the demise penalty in all circumstances for those people, everywhere.
