Declaration on United Nations Day

“Unfortunately, nowadays we find ourselves living in a world where authoritarians increasingly weaken the UN Charter and crush the rights and freedoms of individuals and whole nations. President Vladimir Putin’s illegal and unjustifiable aggression of Ukraine brutally demonstrates what a world without the EL Charter would look like. We all simply cannot allow that vision to succeed. Canada will always stand up for and protect peace, security, human rights and the rule of regulation. October 24, 2022 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Europe The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Matters, today issued the following statement: “Today, we mark the 77th anniversary of the entering effect of the Charter from the United Nations, the document that will created the UN and laid the foundation for the greatest period of global peace and security in modern history. Signed by 51 countries, including Canada, following the devastation of the Second World Battle, the charter affirmed the particular primacy of human legal rights and dignity, underlined the equality of individuals and of countries and promoted the importance of prosperity for all. Applying these concepts was, and remains nowadays, the best means of saving mankind from war. “The world needs more United Nations, not less. Multilateral approaches are among the most efficient ways to respond to many of the complicated, interconnected challenges of our period and address the needs associated with millions of people around the world. Canada will work with international partners to make sure that the UN remains efficient, efficient, relevant and accountable. “Engagement with the UN is a core Canadian commitment. We were there at its development in 1945, and we are actually an active contributor ever since. We are proud to host several UN organizations, including the Worldwide Civil Aviation Organization as well as the Secretariat of the Convention upon Biological Diversity in Montréal, Quebec. Canada will remain the steadfast supporter of and participant at the UN for the sake of all present and upcoming generations. ”
