Canada provides humanitarian assistance funding for Sudan and neighbouring countries

Today, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, announced that Canada has allocated over million in humanitarian assistance funding to UN, Red Cross and other NGO partners for Sudan (.69 million), South Sudan (.12 million) and the Central African Republic ( million). Canada is deeply concerned by the conflict in Sudan and its humanitarian impact on the country’s population and those living in neighbouring countries already struggling as a result of poverty, violence, food insecurity and climate change. Canada calls for all parties to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure and facilitate humanitarian access to allow the provision of critical assistance throughout the country. Canada’s support will help people meet their basic needs, including by providing food assistance, protection, water, sanitation and hygiene services and health services. This funding supports ongoing humanitarian efforts in these countries, and is provided on a flexible basis, allowing partners to adapt and scale-up efforts as the situation evolves in and around Sudan.
