Canada announces humanitarian assistance in response to flooding in Libya

Global Affairs Canada continues to monitor the situation and remains in close contact with its humanitarian partners to assess and respond to humanitarian needs as the crisis evolves. This support will respond to the assessed needs identified in UN and Red Cross/Red Crescent appeals, including for the populations who have been displaced by the impact of the flooding. The flooding in Libya caused by Storm Daniel has resulted in significant loss of life and devastated infrastructure, creating a crisis for the displaced people now dealing with the aftermath. The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced million in funding to help humanitarian partners deliver immediate life-saving assistance, including emergency health, water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as shelter and non-food items, in the areas of northeastern Libya affected by the flooding.  This funding will add to the US million allocated to this crisis through the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), to which Canada is a key donor.
