The Republic of Burundi receives a donation of medicines offered by the Egyptian Government

On january 1, 2022, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Burundi HE Yasser Elsayed and Mrs Léonie NDIHOKUBWAYO who represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation proceeded to the delivery and reception of a donation of medicines offered by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Government of the Republic of Burundi.

The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Burundi HE Yasser Elsayed, indicated that it is within the framework of supporting the efforts of HE Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, to develop the country, especially in the health sector that this drug donation was granted.

Ambassador Yasser Elsayed also said that the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt is always ready to continue to strengthen cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Burundi in the context of supporting Burundi in its process of sustainable development.

In her word of thanks, Mrs Léonie NDIHOKUBWAYO indicated that she had been delegated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation to represent him during this reception ceremony for the second donation of medicines offered to the Government of Burundi by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt. She therefore indicated that the first donation had been granted on october 07, 2021.

Mrs Léonie NDIHOKUBWAYO also recalled that the cooperation between Burundi and the Arab Republic of Egypt dates back several years and that it has always been characterized by multifaceted support in various fields both in moments of joy like today and in hard times. In this context, Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding have been signed, support for the Egyptian Government by the Burundian Government in the context of position statements and applications for positions within Regional and International Organizations, commercial exchanges as well as high-level visits are telltale signs to notice.

Mrs Léonie NDIHOKUBWAYO did not fail to welcome the considerable efforts of the Egyptian Government through its multifaceted support in order to meet the challenges facing Burundi in the context of building capacities in areas as varied as they are strategic such as several short and long-term training courses (internships, seminars, and diploma courses) regularly offered in the sectors of security, defence, diplomacy, health, agriculture and livestock, environment, energy and mining, etc. in favor of Burundian executives.

Mrs Léonie NDIHOKUBWAYO also recalled that the Government of Burundi has included in its National Development Plan (PND Burundi 2018-2027) priority actions to improve, among others, the access of all the population to quality health care through an efficient, strong and resilient health system. “In response to the appeal sent to several partners, here is that in response to this appeal, the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt has decided to grant 15 packages of medicines for the Kamenge Military Hospital and the Burundi National Police Hospital,” said Mrs. Léonie NDIHOKUBWAYO.

Mrs Léonie NDIHOKUBWAYO ended her remarks by reiterating her feelings of gratitude once again, on behalf of the Government of Burundi, towards the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt which continues to show its effective will to support the efforts of the Burundian Government.
