The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation makes a working tour in Europe

As part of the political consultations, with a view to the normalization of bilateral relations between Burundi and the European Union on the one hand, and between Burundi and the European States, on the other hand, as well as the warming of relations between friendship and cooperation between Burundi and France and between Burundi and Switzerland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO made a working tour to Brussels, Paris, Geneva and Bern , from April 24 to May 04, 2021.

During this tour which began in Brussels, capital of the European Union, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation met the Secretary General of the European Service for External Action at the European Union Commission, Mr. Stefanno Sannino. They had a very fruitful meeting, and exchanged views on topics of common interest, including the lifting of sanctions taken by the European Union against Burundi in March 2016.

This visit comes at a time when, for five years, there had not been a working visit by a high-level Burundian authority to this institution.

On the sidelines of this visit, the Minister Ambassador Albert Shingiro met, in Brussels, Mr. André Flahaut, Minister of State, Honorary President of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives in the Belgian Federal Parliament and former Minister of Defense. Their meeting was dominated by the situation in Burundi with a particular emphasis on new positive developments in the country, the regional situation, as well as the state of bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Belgium and Burundi.
