The Ambassador of Burundi to Italy presents his letters of credence


Italy is one of the countries with which Burundi has established the relations of friendship and the win-win cooperation since 1968. A few visits were made and the discussions focused on a few subjects, namely: food in Burundi via the WFP in collaboration with the Government of Burundi which supports the school canteens through its Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research; the partnership between the Ospedale del Bambino Gesùs Pediatric Hospital and the Bonne Action UMUGIRANEZA Polyclinic in the area of capacity building of the staff of that Polyclinic with regard to pediatric surgery via the First Lady of Burundi, Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye; the exchange of experience in agriculture, the livestock, the industry and the processing of the products from those materials to explore the sustainable and productive agricultural practices; the relaunch of cooperation between Italy and Africa especially in the sectors of health, education, the space sector, the fight against human trafficking, the fight against terrorism, migration and the energy transition .
With the aim of making the cooperation more dynamic, the two parties undertake ensuring the good monitoring of the projects presented to the Government and establishing the public partnership in matters of health, investment and trade, agriculture and breeding.
On Friday February 22, 2024, the Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi to Italy, Mr. Ernest Ndabashinze presented his letters of credence to His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic, accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
In that perspective, the cooperation agreements between Burundi and Italy were signed, namely a Framework Cooperation Agreement between Italy and Burundi; a cooperation agreement between the University of Catania and the University of Burundi, and a twinning agreement between a province of Burundi and the province of Catania; a Cooperation and Twinning protocol between the Province of Bubanza and that of Reggio Calbria; an Agreement on the adoption of the children between the Republic of Burundi and the Republic of Italy.
