On January 18, 2022, the Ambassador of Burundi in South Africa Mr. Alexis BUKURU carried out a working visit to the Town Hall of Middlburg, province of Mpumalanga as part of the search for possibilities of establishing twinnings between the localities of Burundi and those of South Africa, within the framework of the mobilization of potential investors to invest in Burundi, within the framework of the transfer of knowledge and technologies, and within the framework of twinnings between technical and vocational schools in Burundi and from South Africa.
Regarding the twinning of local authorities in Burundi and those in South Africa, the Ambassador met with the Executive Mayor and the Municipal Council. The Mayor asked the Ambassador to specify a city in Burundi with which this twinning could be made and also to specify proposals in relation to areas of cooperation.
During this visit, Ambassador Alexis BUKURU also met officials of the Chamber of Commerce in the city of Middelburg to promote investment in Burundi.
After having presented to them the opportunities and advantages of investing in Burundi, a virgin country, they asked questions relating to market studies, statistics, registration procedures, etc. For all these questions, Ambassador BUKURU gave relating clarifications.
In the field of education, the head of technical and professional schools was motivated and would like to visit Burundi to discuss the modalities of opening a professional college and explore other possibilities.
All these investors expressed an interest in coming to Burundi, the team would like to come to Burundi to immerse themselves in the reality on the ground.
