On friday december 10, 2021, the Ambassador of Burundi in Paris, Ernest NIYOKINDI represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation in Burundi, HE Albert SHINGIRO in the 39th Session of the Ministerial Conference of Francophonie held in Paris.
Ambassador Ernest NIYOKINDI addressed his congratulations to the Secretary General for the report that was sent presenting the results of the work of the 118th Session of the Permanent Council of Francophonie (CPF) and outlining the main issues followed by CPF during the year 2021.
Ambassador indicated that the Ministerial Conference of Francophonie (CMF) is held at a time when Burundi is in the dynamics of the implementation of the priorities that His Excellence Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, President of the Republic of Burundi, which was fixed during his swearing in after the free, transparent, inclusive and democratic elections of may 2020. The priorities are good governance, public health, the development of the agricultural sector and the husbandry, youth employment, repatriation of refugees and care for retired people.
Ambassador Ernest NIYOKINDI Burundi seized this opportunity to inform that the Government of BURUNDI appreciates various international organizations for the decisions taken to support BURUNDI in the implementation of development projects. It is in this same context that he indicated that BURUNDI welcomes the decision of the United Nations Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council to remove Burundi from their political agenda.
The Ambassador of Burundi in Paris, Ernest NIYOKINDI indicated that the Government of BURUNDI welcomes the recent decision of the American President to cancel the state of emergency concerning the situation in Burundi and the end of targeted sanctions against certain high-ranking Burundian personalities. The Ambassador added that the Government of BURUNDI invites the European Union, as a historical and important partner of Burundi, to footprint the United States of America and other partners to finalize the process of the cancelling the sanctions in relation to Article 96 of the Cotonou Agreement as well as targeted sanctions.
The Ambassador ended by indicating that the Government of BURUNDI supports the resolutions related to the Digital Francophonie Strategy 2022-2026, the decisions and resolutions relating to cooperation, administrative and financial matters, in particular the budget of International Organization of Francophonie (IOF) for the year 2022 and the resolution opening appropriations for the 2019-2022 quadrennial budget year of the IOF under the year 2022.
