Normalization of diplomatic relations between Burundi and the Netherlands

As part of the normalization of diplomatic relations, the Ambassador of Burundi in The Hague H E Gamaliel NKURUNZIZA had a fruitful meeting with Director Alle Darhout in charge of Sub-Saharan Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands, on Monday, May 10, 2021.

Director Alle Darhout positively appreciates the efforts of the Government of Burundi about the normalization of diplomatic relations with partners and especially the normalization of bilateral relations between Burundi and the European Union.

 

He also appreciated the efforts of the Government of Burundi in good governance, human rights and the fight against corruption. In their exchanges, the Ambassador of Burundi in Hague, asked for the deployment of investors in Burundi so that they interact with those of Burundi and that they exchange experiences before even the cancellation of the sanctions taken against Burundi by the European Union.

The Ambassador of Burundi in The Hague informed his interlocutor that in the same framework of the normalization of bilateral relations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of Burundi plans to visit the Netherlands in order to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

These two personalities also exchanged on subjects relating to the protection of the environment in general and on the flood of the water of Lake Tanganyika which threatens the surrounding population. Director Alle Darhout said that Burundi needs advice and assistance in capacity building because the Netherlands have technicians and experts very experienced in the protection of the population that surrounds the coastlines of lakes, seas and oceans.
