On Wednesday, february 2, 2022, the Assistant of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Mr. Syldie MANIREREKANA enhanced with his presence, the opening ceremonies of an awareness meeting on the use of Geomatic data in the preparation of projects, by a team of experts and technicians from the Office of Geomatics Centralization of Burundi from the Office of the Prime Minister.
After a brief presentation, the team in charge of the Geomatics Department from the Premature made presentations on:
- The definition of Geomatics
- Geographic Information System
- Components of a GIS
- Data available in the National GIS
- GIS and VISA Geomatics units
The said team gave detailed information on GIS (Geographic Information System). The latter is defined as a set of computer tools that make it possible to acquire, organize, manage, process and restore geographical data in the form of plans and maps (intuitive and scalable cartography)
This session is organized with the aim of sensitizing the executives of the various Ministries to promote activities in the management of geographical information within their institutions. It also aims to exchange with participants on the effective and efficient integration of geomatics in public and private institutions.
The expected results for this awareness session are:
– Ministry officials are informed and made aware of Geomatics and its applications in various
Sectors;
– Ministry officials are aware of their roles to play in the production of sectoral GIS data to build
the national GIS.
After a presentation of the selected theme by the technicians, the participants were able to ask questions in relation to the presentation, which show a feeling of satisfaction with the information provided, and a feeling showing a firm commitment to the implementation of the recommendations which were given to them.
