On Monday, February 21, 2022, within the framework of maintaining good relations between Burundi and the United Nations, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Mr. Ferdinand BASHIKAKO, received in audience the Regional Director of UN Women for Eastern and Southern Africa, Mr. Maxime Hominato, accompanied by the Representative of UN Women Country Mrs. Jennet Kem.
In his welcome speech, Mr. Ferdinand BASHIKAKO indicated that the Government of Burundi is satisfied with the activities of UN Women in Burundi. Therefore, the Government of Burundi makes every possible effort in order for Burundian women to be a pillar of the development. Then, she is currently placed at the center of development in general and at the center of nutrition in particular.
In his turn, the Regional Director of UN Women for Eastern and Southern Africa thanked the Government of Burundi for its support in achieving the objectives of UN Women. Therefore, he welcomed the place given to Burundian women in the economic development of the country.
After that, the Regional Director recalled the priorities of UN Women such as the participation of women in decision-making, helping women to find income for the household, avoiding violence against women and ensuring women’s peace and security as they are naturally vulnerable.
