The evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv has begun

“This morning, all Bulgarian citizens who had expressed a desire to evacuate from Kyiv and the surrounding area were informed of the possibility of an emergency evacuation”, said Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry.

So far, four buses and all cars of our mission in Kyiv are moving to the border. There are about 200 people in the vehicles – Bulgarian, Ukrainian, American citizens, citizens of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and one from Georgia, including our entire diplomatic mission.

The Foreign Minister also announced that the entire diplomatic staff of the Consulate General in Odessa has also been withdrawn and is traveling to Bulgaria. Two buses and cars with about 130 people left Odessa today. “Once they cross the borders of Ukraine, they will be accompanied to Bulgaria by a police escort,” said Minister Genchovska. She added that the regular bus line Odessa – Varna continues to operate.

At the briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it became clear that there are 58 people in Moscow who have expressed a desire to evacuate. The embassy is in contact with them and land transportation is being organized, said Minister Genchovska.

In conclusion, the Foreign Minister announced that on the ship Rozhen, flying the Maltese flag, of the 17-member Bulgarian crew, only 2 people have requested evacuation and work is currently underway.
