The Diplomats and Friends Golf Tournament is a great example of how, despite the difficult times caused by the coronavirus, people are able to return to a normal lifestyle. With these words, our Foreign Minister Svetlan Stoev welcomed the participants and winners of the XII Diplomats and Friends Golf Tournament under the patronage and the Cup of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
At a solemn ceremony after a long day of competition, Svetlan Stoev presented the trophy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the best gross result to Dimitar Georgiev, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Bulgaria.
The host of this year’s golf tournament was the town of Bansko. The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held at the Pirin Golf Club, attracted many golf enthusiasts, including representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, members of the representations of international organizations accredited in Bulgaria, as well as guests from abroad.
The participants were divided into two categories “Diplomats” and “Friends”, each of which has two subcategories, which are determined by the level of play of each participant.
The new ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bulgaria Hoshik Li, who is about to present his credentials, ranked first in Division A, and from Division B the first place was taken by Christian Hensel from the German Embassy in Sofia.
“Today we have the chance to be together, to play golf, to talk and to exchange experiences on many topics,” said Minister Stoev. He expressed special gratitude to the main co-organizer of the tournament Ivan Dimitrov, director of the Protocol to the Presidential Administration.
During the day, Svetlan Stoev was at a golf lesson, which was held at the academy “First steps in golf”.
Every year the representatives of the diplomatic corps in our country have the opportunity to compete in other games organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – a chess competition, a ski tournament, and a tennis competition for the Cup of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
