The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova received the representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for the Republic of Bulgaria, Narasimha Rao Nilagiri Lakshmi. During the meeting, Bulgaria’s contribution to the work of UNHCR and cooperation with the organization’s representation in the country were discussed. Among the topics of the meeting were the work of UNHCR with other institutions in Bulgaria, as well as current developments in the region.
Deputy Minister Petrova pointed out that Bulgaria is fulfilling its financial commitment to UNHCR and is actively working on refugee issues nationally and internationally. “Bulgaria will continue to rely on good cooperation with the UNHCR office in Bulgaria,” the Deputy Minister said.
Mr. Rao noted the excellent partnership of UNHCR with Bulgaria and invited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take part in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Bulgaria’s ratification of the UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees (April 22, 1992).
