On January 25, 2022 in inaugural meeting of the project “Raising Awareness of Labor Migration in Bulgaria” was held, implemented by the offices of the International Organization for Migration in Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia and Moldova. The event was held online, with the participation of government agencies, business organizations and employers, representatives of diplomatic missions, NGOs and the media.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Armenia H.E. Mr. Kalin Anastasov made an introductory speech at the opening of the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Kalin Anastasov pointed that Bulgaria is proud of the presence of a significant Armenian diaspora in Bulgaria, which has become an integral and important part of the socio-economic, sports and cultural life of our country. Mr. Anastasov noted that the Armenians in Bulgaria act as a natural bridge between the two countries.
In 2018, the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Armenia signed an Agreement on Regulation of Labor Migration, which provided opportunities for citizens of one country to access the labor market of the other. The same labor rights, obligations and protection of the workplace as for local workers were guaranteed. The entry, residence and employment of Bulgarians in Armenia and of Armenian citizens in Bulgaria are regulated by the legislation of the host country, and employees may be accompanied by members of their families.
Mr. Anastasov noted that the Bulgarian government is taking steps to more effectively implement the administrative processes related to the implementation of the agreement and assured that the Bulgarian Embassy in Armenia will continue to actively provide the necessary assistance in this exchange.
Ambassador Anastasov is convinced that the agreement will contribute to the economic and social development of the two countries and will facilitate cultural exchange between our friendly peoples.
