In a virtual ceremony held on 31 August 2021, Barbados’ Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba H.E. Philip St. Hill, presented to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Roberto Alvarez, copies of his credentials accrediting him as Barbados’ non-resident Ambassador to that country.
In his brief remarks, Ambassador St. Hill said he was pleased and honoured to be so chosen by the Government of Barbados and pledged to make his best effort towards the expansion and strengthening of relations between the Dominican Republic and Barbados. He noted that Barbados, like the Dominican Republic, was a country of the Caribbean region and therefore have a shared history and developmental aspirations.
Ambassador St. Hill highlighted the areas of Culture and Health as two areas which stood ready for cooperation between the two countries. He also mentioned the area of bio-technology research as another possibility for the future.
In his response remarks, Foreign Minister Alvarez said that he was pleased with Ambassador St. Hill’s appointment and agree with him that there were several areas of cooperation between the two countries that could be easily explored. He noted that the Dominican Republic was anxious to re-enlivened its relations with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) given that, for many years, his country has been part of the wider Caribbean arrangement, commonly known as CARIFORUM. The Foreign Minister said that he looks forward to increase cooperation with Barbados and conveyed his warm greetings to the Honourable Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados. (END)
