The Foreign Minister participates in the briefing session between the GCC countries and the US Special Envoy for Iran on Iranian nuclear file negotiations


The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, participated in the briefing session organized by the US State Department between the GCC countries and Robert Malley, the US Special Envoy for Iran, held virtually today.

The session was attended from the GCC countries side, the Adviser to the President of the UAE for Diplomatic Affairs, Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Director of Policy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ambassador Raed Karmali.

Also attending were the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Diplomatic Affairs in the Sultanate of Oman, Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Regional Affairs of the State of Qatar, Ali bin Fahd Al-Hajri and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, Majdi Ahmed Al-Dhafiri.

The US Special Envoy for Iran briefed the participants in the meeting on the latest developments related to the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear agreement dossier in its sixth round, explaining the US administration’s policy regarding negotiations and its position on returning to the nuclear agreement.


Dr. Al-Zayani expressed the GCC countries’ thanks and appreciation to the US administration and the US special envoy to Iran for informing the GCC countries of the progress of negotiations between the 5+1 group and Iran on the Iranian nuclear file.

He expressed the Member States’ aspiration for the parties’ success in reaching concrete development in these negotiations in a way that contributes to maintaining security and stability in the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also expressed the GCC countries’ welcome of the announcement by US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, that any new agreement with Iran will be longer and stronger than the previous agreement and what is required for the success of the negotiations is a comprehensive strategy that takes into account all regional and international concerns regarding the Iranian nuclear program.

The meeting was attended on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Washington, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and Chief of the Americas Affairs at the Ministry, Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa.
