Ambassador Jamal Al-Ruwaie affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is keen to promote coexistence and religious pluralism, noting the great role played by the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Co-existence in supporting human diversity in Bahrain. He also praised the centuries-old historical experience of the Kingdom in supporting diversity and openness and embracing different religions and cultures, which has always enabled our societies to overcome all challenges and promote prosperity.

The Ambassador also hailed the establishment of His Majesty the King for the Isa Award for Service to Humanity more than eleven years ago to explore the humanitarian achievement on the world stage, which adds to the value of mankind and makes serving humanity a sacred duty.

The Supreme Committee for Human Fraternity announced that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the French activist of Moroccan origins, Latifa Ibn Zayatine, won the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity for 2021. The two winners were honoured on the “Zayed the Founder’s Memorial” in Abu Dhabi, and their honouring ceremony was attended by the Pope of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, and the Eminence of the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Shaikh of Al-Azhar.

Ambassador Al-Ruwaie said: “The designation of the International Day of Human Fraternity is an important step that embodies global solidarity to spread the values of coexistence and peace and reinforce efforts to confront extremism and hatred, and we in the Kingdom of Bahrain share this celebration with the world and support these efforts.”

He added that the world’s celebration of this day comes to confirm that humans are equal in rights, duties and dignity, and that they are called to live together as brothers among themselves, to reconstruct the earth and spread the values of goodness, love and peace.
