Permanent Mission of Kingdom of Bahrain to United Nations in New York holds event on International Day of Conscience

The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York held a virtual event on the 2nd International Day of Conscience, which occurs on the fifth of April of each year.

During the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, delivered a visual speech in which he expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s pride in celebrating the International Day of Conscience, convinced that the human conscience is the true motive for promoting the values ​​of peace, coexistence and fraternity among global nations, and that it is the core for rejecting violence and extremism in various parts of the world and establishing the values ​​of international peace for the good of humanity.

He also affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, thanks to the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and his wise vision to promote the values ​​of tolerance, coexistence and brotherhood for the good and peace of the world, believe that the international community must bear in mind the importance of global conscience in resolving conflicts and ending crises, stopping wars, and spreading the values ​​of peace and coexistence in the benefit of humanity.

He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain is proud today that it was a pioneer in the United Nations adoption the 5th of April as an International Day of Conscience, based on the initiative presented by the late His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, as the Kingdom recognizes that various countries in the world are suffering from serious problems such as poverty, hunger and disease, and it believes in the necessity of international cooperation to reach urgent solutions to global problems.

He further highlighted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has always affirmed its interest and keenness to support the efforts of the international community and the United Nations in order to achieve security, peace, stability and prosperity in all parts of the world, and to provide its people with decent, safe and prosperous lives.

He explained that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King, has adopted many initiatives and projects to promote a culture of tolerance, peace and brotherhood, namely the launch of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity and the King Hamad Chair in Inter-Faith Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence, in addition to launching international awards in many fields to promote a culture of peace and peaceful coexistence, and to achieve security, stability and prosperity for the people of the world.

Dr. Al-Zayani added that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the directives of His Majesty the King, managed to promptly deal with the COVID- crisis in accordance with the rules of international laws and covenants, and in line with the values it believes in including sympathy, brotherhood and humanitarian cooperation among the people of the world.

He also noted the efforts of Team Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in combating the spread of the virus, and providing the highest quality of services of all citizens and residents alike.

The Minister called upon the international community to support the countries most affected by the crisis, and to address the many problems faced by developing and poor countries, expressing confidence that the United Nations Organization, with its leadership and its specialized organizations and bodies, is able to lead such international efforts towards a more prosperous and stable world.

On behalf of the President of the seventy-fifth session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Deputy Chief of Cabinet, Farrukh Khan, delivered a speech in which he thanked the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain for organizing the event.

He also stressed the importance of promoting the values of freedom, justice, democracy and guaranteeing all human rights in solving crises and preserving peace in the world as a whole.

The Deputy Chief of Cabinet of the Office of President of General Assembly also noted that this year’s celebration of the International Day of Conscience comes at a time when the world continues to address the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the biggest challenge to face the world in the history of the United Nations, adding that the pandemic is a global issue that threatens to derail the development gains achieved.

Ambassador Farrukh Khan explained that during the development of recovery plans, there is an opportunity to implement the lessons learned, and to build better to protect systems from future shocks and accelerate progress towards sustainable development goals, encouraging everyone to seize this opportunity and ensure that the stimulus packages are in line with the sustainable development goals and the relevant 2030 agreements.

For his part, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al-Ruwaie, stressed the importance of celebrating the International Day of Conscience, especially during the challenges that the world is facing in light of the coronavirus pandemic, which made mankind more aware of its coherence.

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York explained that the International Day of Conscience represents a civilized message to the world, which today is most in need of giving priority to conscience in a way that would benefit the common humanity.

A number of permanent delegates and representatives of brotherly and friendly countries to the United Nations in New York also participated in the event, in addition to United Nations officials and representatives of regional organizations, who thanked the Kingdom of Bahrain for its valuable initiative and effective role in supporting the efforts of the international community aimed at promoting a culture of peace.

The participants referred to the effects of the (Covid-19 pandemic) on achieving the sustainable development goals by the year 2030, and ensuring equal access to (Covid-19) vaccines, stressing the importance of consolidating the values of peaceful coexistence and joint cooperation in order to establish the foundations of peace and prosperity around the world.
