GCC Governments’ Human Rights Agencies hold First Coordination Meeting in Kuwait

The Chief of Human Rights Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, HE Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan Al-Sayed, chaired the first coordination meeting of Heads of human rights agencies of the GCC countries, held in the brotherly State of Kuwait on 11-12 August 2021.

Participating in the meeting were the heads of government agencies concerned with human rights In the GCC countries and the GCC General Secretariat.

The opening session of the meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, HE Ambassador Majdi Al-Dhafiri, who welcomed the participating delegations and stressed the importance of such meetings to coordinate and enhance joint cooperation.

Sessions discussed a number of topics, mainly the special strategy prepared by the General Secretariat in cooperation with the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and the external action plan prepared by the GCC mission to Geneva in addition to joint coordination and reinforcement of exchange of experiences and joint efforts.

It is noteworthy that the meeting has reached a number of human rights recommendations that will cement the GCC coordination in this regard.
