Jewel Major Elected to UN Human Rights Committee

Ms. Jewel G.L. Major is the first member from The Bahamas and from the Caribbean Community to be elected to serve on the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee.

Ms. Major will serve on the Committee as a member of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States until her term expires on 30 September 2023.

Ms. Major, Assistant Director of Legal Affairs, Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs, and Coordinator of the National Reporting Cooperation Mechanism (Human Rights), was elected to the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee on 7 October 2022.
The Advisory Committee works at the direction of the Human Rights Council functions and provides it with advice and suggestions on thematic issues related to the promotion and protection of human rights.
