Bahamas kicks off Candidature for re-election to IMO Council, Category C.

“The IMO’s primary purpose is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping and its remit today includes maritime safety, environmental concerns, legal matters, technical co-operation, maritime security and the efficiency of shipping. IMO is governed by an assembly of members that meets every two years. Its finance and organization is administered by a Council of 40 members elected from the assembly.”

On yesterday, meetings were held with H.E Sturla Sigurjonsson, Ambassador of Iceland; H.E. Dr Fatimata Dia, Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal; and H.E. Saroja Sirisena, High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Minister of Transport and Housing leads delegation in London with BMA officials to begin meetings with countries as the Bahamas begins their campaign for re-election to IMO Council- Category C.
Lastly, we met with H.E. Ki Tack Lim, Secretary-General of the IMO. Where Ambassador Paul Rolle presented his letters of Credentials to the Secretary-General. He is now officially the Bahamas Ambassador to IMO.
