Travel in summer 2021: “A summer with an increased protection factor”

As of 1 July, all COVID-19-related travel warnings have been lifted with the exception of virus mutation areas. With the 3G rule (short for German “geimpft, getestet, genesen – vaccinated, tested, recovered”), travel within the European Union, EEA, and safe non-member countries will be possible again this summer without quarantine requirements. At a joint press conference with State Secretary Magnus Brunner, Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg nevertheless advised exercising caution when travelling this summer. The Foreign Minister recommends informing oneself about the valid travel regulations and the epidemiological situation in the destination country before travelling.

After this past year, which has demanded so much of us, we all deserve a summer break. Nevertheless, it will be a summer that we have to enjoy with a good dose of caution – a summer with an increased protection factor. The virus has not disappeared from the globe,

said Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.

Along with countries such as the USA, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan, Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg was particularly pleased that three Western Balkan states – Serbia, Northern Macedonia, and Albania – are also on the EU’s green list. As of today, the worldwide travel warning is no longer in place. Only thehe travel warnings for virus mutation areas remain in place. Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg also warned, however, that a renewed tightening of the travel advice cannot be ruled out.

Magnus Brunner, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, stressed the serious impact of the travel restrictions on the aviation industry and expressed his gratitude for the industry’s cooperation during last year’s repatriation operations.

Especially at the beginning of the pandemic, the cooperation between the aviation industry and the Foreign Ministry was extremely important,

State Secretary Magnus Brunner recalled the Foreign Ministry’s repatriation flights.

With the newly revised Travel Service App, the Foreign Ministry offers a service-oriented tool which Austrians abroad and travellers can register with free of charge. In emergencies, the status of those registered in a crisis region can be retrieved so that, for example, repatriation or the organisation of medical assistance can be initiated immediately. In addition, travellers can use the app to access up-to-date information on entry requirements around the world, contact details of Austrian embassies, or tips on what to do in emergencies.
