Intercultural Achievement Award (IAA 2021): A new Austrian prize is to be awarded as part of the Foreign Ministry’s intercultural award scheme

The Austrian Ministry of European and International Affairs has been awarding its Intercultural Achievement Award since 2014. The award recognises civil society organisations that foster dialogue across cultural and religious boundaries. Up until now, prizes have been awarded for outstanding work in the categories of sustainability, innovation, media, contemporary issues and integration, with a particular emphasis on art and culture, youth, human rights and education.

As the Intercultural Achievement Awards celebrate their eighth birthday, we have added some new features to the scheme. The deadline for applications is 6 June 2021.

As Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg explained:

“By introducing a new, separate prize for “Best Austrian Project”, covering the same categories as the international prize (sustainability/the environment, contemporary issues, technology and innovation), the Foreign Ministry is fulfilling its long-standing aim of making sure outstanding Austrian civil society projects get the recognition they deserve.”

This year, the international categories will reflect a stronger focus on the environment, the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the new technology category.

The Intercultural Achievement Award is presented by the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, in partnership with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the Future Fund of the Republic of Austria (ÖZF) and the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF).
