Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, during her speech in the Parliamentary Assembly asked the European Union to evaluate the reforms fulfilled by Albania and to keep its promise regarding the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU.

“What makes me optimistic during this year is that the history of procrastination will not be repeated, first with 5 conditions and then with 15, due to the fact that there is an awareness in the EU itself that refusal or postponement of the First Intergovernmental Conference several times when Albania has clearly met all 15 conditions, would seriously jeopardize the credibility of the EU itself”, underlined Minister Xhaçka.

According to Minister Xhaçka, free and fair elections, peaceful and accepted by everyone, will be the key to open the door to Albania’s EU integration.

“It is true that we, as a majority, have our responsibilities. But we have for sure until today treated these responsibilities with the utmost seriousness,” said the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

She underlined the preliminary report that the OSCE / ODIHR published two days ago regarding the April 25 elections. According to Minister Xhaçka, this report is the best that these two bodies have drafted on elections in Albania.
