The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, together with the Special Envoy of the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for the Western Balkans, Sir Stuart Peach, participated in a joint event with students and young diplomats, in the framework of the centenary anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Albania and the United Kingdom.

Minister Xhaçka stressed that by agreeing to hold the Joint Partnership Council during 2022, the United Kingdom has reaffirmed its support for the reform agenda in Albania.

“Having this activity today with students and young diplomats of the diplomatic academy is just the beginning of a series of activities that will take place during this year aiming to promote a new and more ambitious dimension in economic, political exchanges, cultural, but at the same time in the new dynamics of cooperation between us in international organizations. Dialogue and regional cooperation should focus at the next generation, as this is not just a political issue, but has to do with human dynamics and above all with the future of the new generation present here today,” said Minister Xhaçka.

On the other hand, Sir Stuart reaffirmed the support and commitment of the United Kingdom towards Albania as a valued ally and friend.

“A stable and prosperous Western Balkans means a secure and stable Europe. So, it is in our common interest to work together to assist Albania on its Euro-Atlantic path,” said Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans.

In this activity, which took place in the form of a conversation, various aspects of the 100-year progress of diplomatic relations between the two countries were discussed, in the light of important historical documents provided by the diplomatic archives of the two countries, as well as the way forward for the intensification of cooperation between our two countries, bilaterally, regionally and multilaterally.
