Part of the event was the holding of a thematic activity on the promotion of young people and the Women, Peace and Security agenda, within the framework of Albania’s mandate in the Security Council.
The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, had a meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, in Tirana.
After the meeting both of them attended the event “Women, Peace and Security” where, Minister Xhaçka emphasized that the excellent cooperation between Albania and the USA in the Security Council has made a truly essential contribution to the deepening and further consolidation of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
“Any sustainable peace requires justice, I try to remind my colleagues that women are not passive victims, but they have an identity. Women are dismantling the status quo and driving peace processes forward. Peace is synonymous with the prevention of aggression. Therefore, we must do everything in our power to advance the peace and security agenda. We urge all nations to follow this example, as Albania is doing. So that women can lead decision-making for peace and security”, she said.
“For Albania, the full implementation of the agenda for “Women, Peace and Security” is at the top of our priorities during the mandate in the SC. Of course, we still have a lot of work to do to guarantee the rights of girls and women in Albania, but the truth is that, especially during the last decade, considerable progress has been made. And I believe that our commitment to the UN and the Security Council to advance the agenda for Women, Peace and Security is not only an important contribution that our country makes to this international agenda, but also a valuable impulse for the cause of women and girls in our country”, said the minister in her speech during the event.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield stated that women around the world are dismantling the status quo and driving peace processes forward.
