Albania assumes UN Security Council presidency, PM Rama and Minister Xhaçka leave for US

Holding responsible the violators of international law, whether states or individuals, requires the cooperation of all peace-loving states, starting with members of the Security Council. The debate chaired by PM Rama marks the beginning of the implementation of the work plan of the Presidency of Albania in the Security Council.
The meetings chaired by PM Rama will be followed by several other marking activities, during the month of June, including at the Ministerial level, such as:
Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhacka will leave today for the United States of America, preceding the Presidency of Albania in the UN Security Council (June 1 – June 30, 2022).
– Open Debate on the Working Methods of the Security Council, chaired by the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the UN, NY (June 28).

This is the first time that Albania holds the presidency of the UNSC during its two-year term in the Council. Next year, Albania will have the presidency a few months before the end of its mandate, in October 2023. The work program of this presidency best connects Albania’s priorities in the Security Council with the most important international security developments, such as the war in Ukraine.

The presidency of the UNSC for the month of May was held by the United States of America.
On the morning of June 2, Prime Minister Rama will chair the high-level debate of the Security Council on international accountability, as one of the priorities of our country in the Security Council, highlighted even more due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
