Wrapping up his visit to Afghanistan, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett & accompanying delegation called on Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai.

Mr. Bennett thanked MoFA for providing them with travel facilities & open access to sites. Welcoming Mr. Bennett, DFM Stanekzai said that HR issues exist everywhere, from our neighboring to European countries, whereas Afghanistan has just come out of a near half-a-century war. Referring to problems of the previous administration, he said that compared to the past, the rate of suicide & extrajudicial killings of women, kidnapping & torture in prisons has dropped to zero. Mr. Stanekzai also urged UN support in resolving economic challenges, banking restrictions, treatment of drug addicts & other problems. To end, Mr. Bennett pledged to talk with donor states to provide assistance towards ending poverty in Afghanistan.
