Deputy Foreign Minister Receives the Australian Charge d’Affairs to Kabul

KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister Mirwais Nab received Australian Chargé d’ Affaires Dr Axel Wabenhorst to discuss bilateral affairs and the Afghan peace process. 

Deputy Foreign Minister congratulated Australia’s National Day and expressed gratitude for the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Response Plan for Afghanistan.

Mr. Nab welcomed the joint statement by international partners condemning the continuation of assassinations, kidnapping, and destruction of Afghanistan’s vital infrastructure. He added that the Taliban did not live up to their promises toward the Afghan peace process.

Mr. Wabenhorst assured the Deputy Foreign Minister of Australia’s commitment to an immediate ceasefire and a political settlement in Afghanistan. He said Australia supported a dignified and lasting peace that preserved democracy and human rights.

 In the end, both sides discussed bilateral affairs, especially the Second Round of Political Consultations, and ways to realize it faster.
