Deputy Minister Petrova received Principal Situation Coordinator of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova talks with the Principal Situation Coordinator of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Anne-Marie Deutschlander, who is visiting Bulgaria, in connection with the growing number of asylum seekers in our country following the war in Ukraine.

Deputy Minister Petrova acquainted Anne-Marie Deutschlander and her team with the organization set up at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to evacuate Bulgarian citizens and members of their families from Ukraine, as well as with the humanitarian aid provided by the Ministry. Velislava Petrova called on the representatives of UNHCR to get directly acquainted with the needs of technical, material and financial assistance that the Bulgarian agencies working with refugees have.

The interlocutors agreed that good coordination is key to tackling the challenges. Anne-Marie Deutschlander emphasized UNHCR’s commitment to helping the ever-increasing number of refugees.
