Validation of the Sector Strategy for Good Governance, the Fight against Corruption and Economic Embezzlement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation.

On friday, november 19, 2021, at “La Détente”, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Mr. Ferdinand BASHIKAKO opened the work of the validation workshop of the Sector Strategy for Good Governance and the Fight against Corruption and Economic Embezzlement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation.

In his speech, the Permanent Secretary reminded that for a certain period, the Burundian Government has set itself the overall objective of establishing Good Governance in all sectors of national life in order to promote the rule of law in Burundi. Aware of the devastating effects of corruption on the economy and social development of the country and especially on the image of the country’s institutions, and it is not trivial to repeat it, the Government has made a lot of efforts in the field of the fight against corruption indicated Mr. Ferdinand BASHIKAKO.

The Permanent Secretary said since 2010, the Republic of Burundi has adopted a Sector Strategy for Good Governance and the Fight against Corruption, first generation, which was implemented over the period 2011-2015. He also reminded that before this Strategy, the anti-corruption law was promulgated on april 18, 2006. On the basis of the National Strategy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation has designed a Sector Strategy for Good Governance.” And the Fight against Corruption and Economic Embezzlement. “In addition, Decree No. 100/053 of 01 September 2020 on the missions and organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, among other tasks, orders the design of a policy of the Ministry in terms of good governance; the development of standards for better management of State goods and services and the control of their effective application, as well as the development and monitoring of the Ministry’s investment projects “insisted the Permanent Secretary.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Good Governance, within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, is used with reference to transparency and the application of the principles of accountability in the procedures and activities of the Ministry. He declared that the Sectoral Strategy document for Good Governance is in line with the straight line drawn by the National Development Plan of Burundi, PND Burundi 2018-2027, Strategic Orientation 4 “Strengthen Good Governance, Security and Safeguarding of national sovereignty”, Axis 13“Governance”in its Strategic Objective 3“Consolidate Good Governance and eradicate corruption and economic and financial embezzlement in all their forms and at all levels”.

Note that after the speech of the Permanent Secretary, the participants followed a presentation of this document presented by Jean Claude BIZIMANA, Director in charge of Legal and Administrative Questions at the Special Anti-Corruption Brigade of Burundi and Advisory Advisor of the African Union on Fight against Corruption. The Participants asked questions for some grievances related to the form of this document. After a complete analysis of the latter, they validated this Sector Strategy for Good Governance, the Fight against Corruption and Economic Embezzlement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation.
