Venezuela’s Interim Government and the 2015 National Assembly

We also continue to call for the implementation of the recommendations of the 2021 Eu Electoral Observation Mission in order to Venezuela, aimed at improving upcoming electoral processes in line with worldwide commitments on democratic polls.   We will work with a broad range of Venezuelan and international partners to use all suitable diplomatic and economic tools to press for the release of all those unjustly detained for political reasons, the independence of political celebrations, respect for freedom associated with expression and other universal individual rights, and an end to human rights abuses.   We will engage with other users of the international community to foster conditions conducive towards the conduct of free and reasonable elections in Venezuela, and to support the objectives from the negotiations in Mexico.
The United States continues to recognize the democratically elected 2015 Nationwide Assembly as the last leftover democratic institution in Venezuela, and we welcome the agreement reached to extend its power.
The United States also supports efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Venezuelan people plus bring the humanitarian crises within Venezuela to an end via international cooperation.   Considering that 2017, the United States has provided a lot more than . 3 billion in humanitarian assistance both within Venezuela and to Venezuelans forced to flee throughout the region.   The Maduro regime’s pattern of political repression and rampant human rights violations, as well as severe restrictions on political and civil modern society actors and freedom associated with expression, have robbed the Venezuelan people of democratic self-determination.   We assistance the efforts of the Unitary Platform and other actors to establish democratic order and rule of law in Venezuela.
The United States supports the Venezuelan people within their desire for a peaceful restoration of democracy through free and fair elections and can continue to support Venezuela’s democratic opposition.   We continue to call on Nicolás Maduro in making meaningful progress in the discussions in Mexico with the Unitary Platform focused on the 2024 elections.   Releasing a good electoral calendar, reinstating applicants, and returning control of politics parties to rightful market leaders, updating the electoral registry, and allowing for international electoral observation missions are all essential elements to this negotiation.
